What’s inside the guide

Great Barrier Reef Diving Atlas

Safariboot trips to the Ribbon Reefs depart from Trinity Wharf in Cairns, and on the short journey aboard the Spirit of Freedom, the Cod Hole with its large potato cod is always included. The return journey is then by light aircraft from Lizard Island. From Port Douglas, the Quicksilver day boat takes you to the Agincourt Reef at the edge of the continental shelf. Further south, off Cape Bowling Green, lies the Yongala, which sank in a cyclone in 1911. Yongala Dive takes you out from Alva Beach near Ayr in just over half an hour and requires at least an Advanced Open Water course. Diving into the wreck is prohibited.

Here you dive from a base, on the day boat, or at the house reef. Instead of entry and parking, each profile mentions the port and the boat's travel time. In the base's weekly schedule, you can see how a diving week is organized. In the accommodation section, the band compares which base and house reef belong to which resort. Restaurants and excursions for non-diving days are listed in the band with a map link, as well as airport transfers and the chapter on emergencies and hyperbaric chambers. Where diving sites can only be reached by safari boat, the band compares routes, boats, and departure ports.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.
