Diving in Cozumel and the cenotes
The cenotes are located on private land, and you usually pay the entrance fee in cash in pesos at the entrance. For most cenotes, an Open Water certification is sufficient; El Pit and Angelita are deep shafts that require Advanced Open Water certification. From October to March is the season of the Nortes, cold fronts with winds from the north to northwest. When the port authority closes the harbor, boat dives are canceled; on the mainland coast, the inland cenotes are the usual alternative for certified divers.
