Getting to Koh Tao and Koh Samui and travel information

On Koh Tao, you take a dive center’s day boat out, with many centers offering two dives twice a day. There is no pier in front of the dive centers at Sairee Beach. The large boats moor off the beach, and a longtail boat will take you across; in Mae Haad, where the ferries dock, several dive centers are located just a few minutes from the pier. Chumphon Pinnacle lies northwest of the island, while the wreck of the HTMS Sattakut, a decommissioned Royal Thai Navy landing craft, is off the west coast. Dive centers from both Koh Tao and Koh Phangan, as well as from Koh Samui, sail to Sail Rock in the open water between Koh Tao and Koh Phangan. From Koh Samui, you can also visit Ang Thong National Park, an archipelago of 42 small islands.

This booklet is for traveling to Koh Tao and Koh Samui and getting around locally. It covers flights from German-speaking countries, the airlines’ rules for scuba diving equipment, and transfers from the airport to your accommodation or dive center. The travel information sections cover documents and insurance, health, equipment, packing lists, money, and phone calls in turn. The land and people section explains the history and local customs, and how to pronounce the most important place names.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while traveling and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Researched and compiled by a divemaster.
