Plan a diving holiday in Gran Canaria

To get to the El Cabrón dive site, you drive from Las Palmas along the GC-1 towards Arinaga to the lighthouse, with the final stretch on a dirt track. You enter the water there at Playa de El Cabrón. The sea in front of it has been a Natura 2000 site since 2011, where you must not feed animals or disturb sea turtles. The Arona, a freighter that sank in 1972 after a fire in the engine room, lies off the northeast coast opposite Jinámar and is only accessible by boat. A base in the Las Palmas sports boat harbour runs trips to it and requires an advanced diving certificate. You can hire rental cars at the Gran Canaria airport arrivals halls.

This booklet helps you plan your week. Sample weeks combine dive sites into days, each with a plan B in case the wind changes. The last day before your return flight is kept dive-free, and there are suggestions for that too. The monthly travel guide lists water and air temperatures, wind, visibility, crowds and special features, so you can set your dates before booking your flight and accommodation.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print at home as a booklet.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Researched and compiled by a divemaster.

Questions about the booklet “Plan a diving holiday in Gran Canaria”
