Diving sites in Gran Canaria
To get to the El Cabrón dive site, you drive from Las Palmas along the GC-1 towards Arinaga to the lighthouse, with the final stretch on a dirt track. You enter the water there at Playa de El Cabrón. The sea in front of it has been a Natura 2000 site since 2011, where you must not feed animals or disturb sea turtles. The Arona, a freighter that sank in 1972 after a fire in the engine room, lies off the northeast coast opposite Jinámar and is only accessible by boat. A base in the Las Palmas sports boat harbour runs trips to it and requires an advanced diving certificate. You can rent cars at the Gran Canaria airport arrivals halls.
This booklet is for days in the water. At the beginning, a map shows all the shore dive sites, and each profile describes the entry from the shore with parking. At the compass rose, you can see which wind conditions are suitable for each site. A table at the end of the chapter lists the other dive sites. The chapter Diving in Gran Canaria explains the conditions throughout the year and which coast is suitable for which wind, as well as the regulations. Typical species are shown in the marine life section with an actual photo and their season.
You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print out as a booklet at home.
