Scuba diving safaris in the Galápagos Islands

Darwin and Wolf lie far to the north of the Galápagos, and you can only get there on a safari boat. Day boats departing from Santa Cruz stay at sites around the central islands, such as Gordon Rocks. The safari boats usually depart from Baltra or San Cristóbal, and their permits determine which islands they visit and when. Swarms of hammerhead sharks gather around Darwin and Wolf, and a study found more fish biomass there than at any other reef studied to date, especially sharks. Since 2016, fishing has been banned around both islands. Only the pylons remain of the arch off Darwin since 2021.

This booklet is for your time on board. It compares the routes, lists boats and ports of embarkation, and shows which route runs in which months. Along a route, the dive sites are listed in the order they are visited. The Diving in the Galápagos chapter explains conditions and regulations, while Marine Life shows typical species with an actual photo and their season. With the travel period broken down by month, you can choose the dates of your trip.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while traveling and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Questions about the booklet “Scuba diving safaris in the Galápagos Islands”
