What’s inside the guide

Diving Atlas Bali and Gili Islands

In Tulamben on Bali’s east coast, you walk from the shore to the Liberty, a US Army transport ship that ran aground there after being hit by a torpedo in 1942. When Mount Agung erupted in 1963, the wreck slid off the beach. In nearby Amed, you dive from the shore or from a jukung, the local fishermen’s boat. After Nusa Penida, you cross over from Sanur. The waters around the island are a Bali provincial marine protected area, where you do not touch or feed the mantas and sunfish. To the Gilis, which are part of Lombok, you take speedboats from Serangan and Padang Bai, and diving there is done from the boat.

The book is written for divers who either drive to the dive sites themselves or dive through a dive centre. Each profile lists the entry point from the shore with parking, and on the compass rose you can see which wind conditions make the site unsuitable. Sample weeks with a Plan B combine the sites into dive days. Above water, accommodations near the dive sites, restaurants and excursions help you out, with each location including a map link. Finally, there are sections on travel, travel information and emergency procedures and recompression chambers.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print at home as a booklet.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Questions about the booklet “Diving Atlas Bali and Gili Islands”
