What’s inside the guide

Sleeping and Eating in Bali and the Gili Islands

In Tulamben on Bali’s east coast, you walk from the shore to the Liberty, a US Army transport ship that ran aground there after being hit by a torpedo in 1942. When Mount Agung erupted in 1963, the wreck slid off the beach. In nearby Amed, you dive from the shore or from a jukung, the local fishermen’s boat. After Nusa Penida, you continue on to Sanur. The waters around the island are a marine protected area in the province of Bali, where you do not touch or feed the mantas and sunfish. To the Gilis, which are part of Lombok, speedboats depart from Serangan and Padang Bai, and diving there is done from the boat.

This booklet is for the time between dives. It helps you choose a dive base and describes the areas afterwards, including nearby entry points. For each accommodation, it states whether there is parking, space to rinse and dry your equipment, and an early breakfast. Restaurants and snack bars near the entry points are also included, as well as excursions for breaks and the day off from diving before your return flight, each location with a map link.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Researched and compiled by a divemaster.
