What’s inside the guide

Diving sites in Marsa Alam

Between El Quseir and Hamata, you dive from a base, usually from the house reef at the pier or beach, and on certain days from a day boat. The day boats depart from Port Ghalib, the port of Marsa Alam, and Hamata. In Abu Dabbab Bay, you walk from the beach to the seagrass meadow, where green sea turtles graze and, if you're lucky, a dugong. At Sha'ab Samadai, the inner lagoon belongs solely to the spinner dolphins. A constant current flows over the Elphinstone plateaus, and oceanic whitetip sharks visit in autumn. You can only reach Daedalus, Rocky Island, Zabargad, and St. John's by liveaboard, which usually departs from Port Ghalib.

This booklet is for your days in the water. At the beginning, a map shows all the dive sites. Each dive site lists the port from which the boat departs, along with the travel time, or the house reef where you enter the water from the shore. A table at the end of the chapter organizes the remaining dive sites. What conditions and winds to expect throughout the year and which regulations apply are explained in the chapter Diving in Marsa Alam. Typical species are shown under Marine Life, with an actual photo and the season.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Questions about the booklet “Diving sites in Marsa Alam”

Was steht im Heft Tauchplätze in Marsa Alam?

Was unterscheidet das Heft Tauchplätze in Marsa Alam vom Tauchatlas Marsa Alam?
