What’s inside the guide

Planning a diving holiday in Cape Verde

In Cape Verde, you dive off Sal and Boa Vista on a dive centre’s boat. On Sal, the centres from Santa Maria take you to reefs with overhangs, to two wrecks that are now artificial reefs, and into the caves off Palmeira and Murdeira. The Blue Eye of Buracona, a cave on the northwest coast, is famous. Off Sal Rei on Boa Vista, the boats depart from Estoril Beach for the Taliarte and John M. wrecks and sites such as Shark Point. The northeast trade winds blow all year round, so the centres often expect currents and swell.

This booklet helps you plan your week. The dive centre’s weekly schedule shows how boat trips and dives at the house reef are spread across the days, with a plan B if the boat cannot sail due to the weather. The last day before your return flight is kept dive-free. The section on the best time to visit gives water and air temperatures, wind, visibility, crowds and other details, so you can choose your dates before booking your flights and accommodation.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while travelling and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.
