What’s inside the guide

Plan a diving vacation in Cozumel and the cenotes

The reefs off the west coast of Cozumel are a national park, and there you can only dive with a licensed guide. In the mornings, the day boats set off, the group jumps into the water together and drifts with the current, which on the west coast usually flows north; the boat follows on the surface. In the cenotes on the mainland opposite, a guide who is a diving instructor and cave diver leads you along a permanently fixed line through the daylight zone. There are no direct flights to Cozumel from German-speaking countries, and passenger ferries go to the island from Playa del Carmen.

With this booklet you plan the week. On a base's weekly schedule you can see how boat trips and dives at the house reef are distributed over the days, with a plan B if the boat does not run due to the weather. The last day before the return flight remains dive-free. The travel time by month states water and air temperature, wind, visibility, crowds and special features, so that you can set the date before you book the flight and accommodation.

You get a PDF in A5 format, which you can read on your phone or tablet on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Researched and compiled by a divemaster.

Questions about the booklet “Plan a diving vacation in Cozumel and the cenotes”
