What’s inside the guide

Scuba diving safaris in Costa Rica

Isla del Coco lies far out in the Pacific, a UNESCO National Park and World Heritage Site where schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks pass by the cliffs and islets. Divers reach it on a liveaboard that departs from Puntarenas and dive from a tender boat. Closer to the coast lies Isla del Caño off the Osa Peninsula. As a biological reserve, it only allows a limited number of divers, with day boats departing from Drake Bay, Sierpe, Uvita, and Dominical. Humpback whales from both hemispheres come to these waters to mate and give birth to their calves.

This booklet is for the days on the liveaboard. It compares the routes, lists boats and departure ports, and shows which route runs in which months. Along a route, the dive sites are listed in the order the boat visits them. Typical species are shown with an actual photo and season. If you combine a safari with days at a base, you can also take the dive site booklet with you.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.
