What’s inside the guide

Dive sites in the Visayas

In the Visayas, you dive from a base, usually by bangka, the wooden boat with bamboo outriggers. Before Malapascua, it leaves early in the morning for the fox sharks at Monad Shoal and Kimud Shoal off Leyte, where most had switched in September 2022. In Moalboal, you reach the sardine swarm from the shore off Panagsama Beach and Pescador Island by boat. Before Dauin on Negros, you dive from the beach over sand and silt, and from there the bangka goes to Apo Island, where the bases see sea turtles on most dives. From Alona Beach on Panglao, the bases go to Balicasag and Pamilacan.

This booklet is for the days in the water. At the beginning, a map shows all the dive sites. Each dive site lists the port from which the boat departs, with the travel time, or the house reef where you enter from the shore. The remaining dive sites are organized in a table at the end of the chapter. What to expect throughout the year in terms of conditions and wind, and which regulations apply, is explained in the chapter Diving in the Visayas. Typical species are shown with an actual photo and season.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Questions about the booklet “Dive sites in the Visayas”
