What’s inside the guide

Dive sites in the Maldives

The Ari Atoll in the Maldives is home to well-known dive sites such as Fish Head, Maaya Thila and Kuda Rah Thila. Whale sharks can be seen in the marine protected area in the south of the atoll all year round. The Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and in the Hanifaru Bay on its eastern side, manta rays gather during the southwest monsoon, where you are only allowed to snorkel. Safari boats depart from Malé and visit several atolls in one week, with some travelling to the Baa Atoll from July to October. You can also stay on a resort island with a house reef or at a guesthouse on a local island and make day trips from there.

This booklet is for your days in the water. At the beginning, a map shows all the featured sites. Each feature lists the harbour from which the boat departs, along with the travel time, or the house reef where you board from the shore. A table at the end of the chapter lists the remaining dive sites. What conditions and winds to expect throughout the year and which regulations apply are explained in the chapter Diving in the Maldives. Typical species are shown with an actual photograph and their season.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.

Researched and compiled by a divemaster.

Questions about the booklet “Dive sites in the Maldives”
