Diving bases and accommodation near Sipadan

Sipadan is Malaysia's only oceanic island, a coral reef on a volcanic cone in the Celebes Sea off Borneo. Since 2004, it has been a marine park managed by Sabah Parks, and there is no longer any accommodation on the island itself. You therefore stay on Mabul or Kapalai and dive Sipadan with a permit that Sabah Parks limits each day and issues only through registered operators. At Barracuda Point in the north of the island, schools of barracudas circle, while the entrance to Turtle Cavern lies in the wall at the drop-off. Off Mabul, you search for macro life such as ornate sepia, blue-ringed octopuses, anglerfish and moray eels. On Kapalai, the resort stands on stilts over a sandbank.

Kann man auf Sipadan übernachten?

Nein, auf Sipadan gibt es seit 2004 keine Unterkünfte mehr, seit die Insel Meerespark von Sabah Parks ist. Taucher wohnen in den Resorts auf Mabul oder Kapalai. Auf Mabul, das zugleich ein Dorf ist, reichen die Unterkünfte von einfachen Lodges bis zu Wasserbungalows, dazu kommt die Seaventures Dive Rig, eine frühere Ölplattform mit Gästezimmern.

Wo liegt das Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort?

Das Sipadan Kapalai Dive Resort liegt auf Kapalai bei Sipadan, einer Sandbank, auf der die Chalets auf hohen Holzstelzen im Meer stehen und ein Steg sie verbindet. Am Hausriff liegen künstliche Riffe mit Wracks, und in der Dämmerung zeigen sich am Steg Mandarinfische. Die Tauchbasis verleiht Ausrüstung und bietet PADI-Kurse an.

Kann man bei Sipadan einen Tauchkurs machen?

Ja, bei Sipadan machst du den Tauchkurs auf Mabul oder Kapalai, etwa bei Scuba Junkie, auf der Seaventures Dive Rig oder im Resort auf Kapalai, die alle nach PADI ausbilden. Scuba Junkie übt auf einer Plattform im ruhigen Wasser vor dem Steg und bietet Pakete mit Open Water und dem Advanced, den du für Sipadan brauchst.
