Getting to Sydney, Melbourne and Apollo Bay and travel information

In Sydney, you go from the shore into the water at Shelly Beach in Manly, in the Cabbage Tree Bay sanctuary, where no one has been allowed to fish since March 2002. The ferry to Manly departs from Circular Quay and crosses the harbour. Before Melbourne, the dive boats depart from Portsea and Queenscliff and travel into the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park at the entrance to the bay. Popes Eye, an artificial ring in the water off Portsea, protects against the tidal current. At Apollo Bay, between Wye River and Cape Otway, Australian fur seals rest on an island in the Marengo Reefs sanctuary, which you can reach by snorkelling from the beach in suitable conditions.

This booklet is for the trip to Sydney, Melbourne and Apollo Bay and getting around locally. It lists the flights from German-speaking countries, the airlines' rules for diving equipment, and the route from the airport to your accommodation, as well as how to get around locally. In the travel information, you will go through documents and insurance, health, equipment, packing list, money and phone in order. Land and people explains history and customs, and how to pronounce the most important place names.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.
