Travel to Roatán and travel information
On Roatán, the dive operators usually take you by boat to sites at a fixed mooring buoy. In West End, the boats leave several times a day, and the western end of the island offers little current and shelter from the prevailing wind, according to West End Divers. At West Bay Beach, the reef begins just a few steps from the shore. From the shore, you can also dive at the house reefs of several resorts, and at CoCo View on the south coast, you can dive year-round to the Prince Albert wreck. The waters around the Bay Islands have been a marine national park since 2010, where rangers from the Roatán Marine Park patrol by boat.
This booklet is for your trip to Roatán and getting around locally. It covers flights from German-speaking countries, the airlines' rules for scuba gear, and transfers from the airport to your accommodation or dive base. In the travel information, you will find sections on documents and insurance, health, equipment, packing lists, money, and phone calls, in that order. The land and people section explains the history and local customs, and how to pronounce the most important place names.
You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while traveling and print as a booklet at home.
