Travel to the Azores and travel information
In the Azores, you usually dive from a dive center’s boat. From Horta on Faial and from Madalena on Pico, the boats sail into the channel between the two islands, to the Condor Bank and to the blue sharks. Far out lies the Princess Alice Bank, a seamount that is about a three-hour journey away and for which the dive centers require experience. On Santa Maria, the boats depart from Vila do Porto, mainly to Baixa do Ambrósio with its manta rays and to the Ilhéus das Formigas. In summer, whale sharks also swim past there. The official Azores diving website lists June to September as the best time for diving.
This booklet is for the trip to the Azores and getting around locally. It covers flights from German-speaking countries, the airlines’ rules for diving gear, and the route from the airport to your accommodation, as well as how to get around locally. In the travel information, you will go through documents and insurance, health, equipment, packing list, money, and phone calls in turn. Land and people explains history and customs, and how to pronounce the most important place names.
You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while traveling and print as a booklet at home.
