Planning a Diving Vacation in Costa Rica
Isla del Coco lies far out in the Pacific, a UNESCO National Park and World Heritage Site where schools of scalloped hammerhead sharks pass by the cliffs and islets. Divers reach it on a safari boat departing from Puntarenas and dive from a tender. Closer to the coast lies Isla del Caño off the Osa Peninsula. As a biological reserve, it only allows a limited number of divers, with day boats departing from Drake Bay, Sierpe, Uvita, and Dominical. Humpback whales from both hemispheres come to these waters to mate and give birth to their calves.
With this booklet, you plan the week. The base's weekly schedule shows how boat trips and dives at the house reef are spread over the days, with a plan B if the boat does not sail due to the weather. The last day before the return flight remains dive-free. The travel period section lists water and air temperatures, wind, visibility, crowds, and special features by month, so you can set the date before booking your flight and accommodation.
You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.
