What’s inside the guide

Azores Diving Atlas

In the Azores, you usually dive from a dive center’s boat. From Horta on Faial and from Madalena on Pico, the boats sail into the channel between the two islands, to the Condor Bank and to the blue sharks. Far out lies the Princess Alice Bank, a seamount that is about a three-hour journey away and for which the dive centers require experience. On Santa Maria, the boats depart from Vila do Porto, roughly to Baixa do Ambrósio with its devil rays and to the Ilhéus das Formigas. In summer, whale sharks also swim by there. The official Azores diving website lists June to September as the best time for diving.

The book is written for divers who drive to the dive sites themselves or dive through a dive center. Each profile lists the shore entry with parking, and on the compass rose you can see which wind conditions make the site unsuitable. Sample weeks with Plan B combine the sites into dive days. Above water, accommodations near the dive sites, restaurants, and excursions will help you, each location with a map link. Finally, there are travel directions, travel information, and the chapter on emergencies and recompression chambers.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print at home as a booklet.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.
