Travel to the Maldives and travel information
The Ari Atoll in the Maldives is home to well-known dive sites such as Fish Head, Maaya Thila and Kuda Rah Thila. Whale sharks can be seen in the marine protected area in the south of the atoll all year round. The Baa Atoll is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and manta rays gather in Hanifaru Bay on its eastern side during the southwest monsoon, where you are only allowed to snorkel. Safari boats depart from Malé and visit several atolls in a week, with some travelling to the Baa Atoll from July to October. You can also stay on a resort island with a house reef or at a guesthouse on a local island and make day trips from there.
This booklet is for travelling to the Maldives and getting around once you are there. It covers flights from German-speaking countries, the airlines' rules for scuba diving equipment, and transfers from the airport to your accommodation or dive base. The travel information sections cover documents and insurance, health, equipment, packing lists, money and phone use in turn. The country and its people section explains history and local customs, and how to pronounce the most important place names.
You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while travelling and print as a booklet at home.
