What’s inside the guide

Travel to Belize and travel information

The Great Blue Hole is located in the Lighthouse Reef Atoll and is part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World Heritage Site. Day boats depart early in the morning from Caye Caulker and San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, usually combining the Blue Hole with the wall off Half Moon Caye, where you can visit the red-footed booby colony during lunch. The Turneffe Atoll has been a fully protected marine reserve since 2012. The Turneffe Island and Blackbird Caye resorts pick you up in Belize City and also take you to the Blue Hole from there. Every Saturday evening, the Belize Aggressor III and IV safari boats depart from Belize City.

This booklet is for the trip to Belize and getting around locally. It lists flights from German-speaking countries, the airlines' rules for scuba gear, and transfers from the airport to your accommodation or base. In the travel information, you will go through documents and insurance, health, equipment, packing list, money, and phone calls in turn. Land and people explains history and customs, and how to pronounce the most important place names.

You will receive an A5-format PDF that you can read on your phone or tablet while on the go and print as a booklet at home.

Depths, currents and entries change. The guide does not replace a briefing on site or your training.
